Ambit — data licences
Last updated 2026-08-18
Ambit identifies devices from three public datasets. Two of them are open registries. The third has a licence saying its notice must travel along with every redistribution, and this counts as one, so here it is.
Rapid7 Recog
Fingerprints that turn the way a service answers into an actual product name. Redistributed under the BSD 2-Clause licence, which ships inside the app and which the data server also republishes at https://ambit.kynto.eu/v1/recog-LICENSE.txt.

IEEE MA-L registry
The public registry mapping hardware-address prefixes to the companies that hold them. Published by the IEEE Registration Authority as a public registry.
CSA Distributed Compliance Ledger
The Connectivity Standards Alliance's public ledger of certified Matter vendors and products, used to name smart-home devices that identify themselves as Matter capable.
How the data reaches the app
I rebuild these weekly and publish them as static files at https://ambit.kynto.eu/v1, each with a SHA-256 in a manifest you're welcome to read yourself. All of them also ship inside the app, so it can identify devices with no network access whatsoever. The weekly fetch is only there to keep things current.
